Award-Winning Authors, Editors, and Former Youth Winners Unite as Judges for Kids Write 4 Kids
Toronto, ON (January 7, 2025) — Kids Write 4 Kids (KW4K), Canada’s national creative writing contest for students in Grades 4–8, proudly announces its 2025–2026 judging panel, bringing together acclaimed authors, editors, educators — and former youth winners who have returned as judges — to champion the next generation of young storytellers.
This year’s panel reflects Kids Write 4 Kids’ commitment to literary excellence, mentorship, and diverse perspectives, featuring respected voices from across children’s publishing, journalism, education, and creative leadership.
Judging Panel Highlights
Among the distinguished judges is Scott Chantler, an acclaimed graphic novelist whose work includes Two Generals, The Three Thieves, and Squire & Knight. A former Eisner Award nominee and Canada’s first Cartoonist-in-Residence at the University of Windsor, Chantler brings deep insight into visual storytelling, literacy, and youth creativity.
Also joining the panel is Ron Tite, a best-selling author, speaker, and creative leader known for bridging storytelling, leadership, and purpose. Tite’s perspective highlights how creative writing builds confidence, critical thinking, and communication skills far beyond the page.
Award-winning children’s author Linda Trinh brings a strong voice for representation and identity in children’s literature. A mentor and community advocate, Trinh’s work explores culture, belonging, and storytelling across generations.
Métis children’s author and educator Willie Poll contributes a powerful perspective rooted in lived experience, land, and oral storytelling traditions, offering young writers a meaningful connection between creativity and cultural memory.
The panel also includes senior editors and journalists, such as Tanya Trafford and Samia Madwar, who provide behind-the-scenes insight into the craft of writing, editorial excellence, and storytelling standards.
From Winners to Mentors: Youth Voices Return as Judges
The panel also includes last year’s Kids Write 4 Kids winners, Isabel Roscoe and Firdaus El-Darymli — a full-circle moment that reflects the program’s long-term impact.
“Seeing past winners come back as judges is one of the most meaningful parts of Kids Write 4 Kids,” said Ivy Wong, founder of Ripple Foundation. “It shows young writers that their voices matter — not just once, but for years to come.”
