Writing Contest Winner Announcement

Thank you to all the teachers, principals, parents, librarians and volunteers who helped us spread the word and inspire young writers in their community to participate in the Kids Write 4 Kids creative challenge.

We would like to thank each and every child who submitted their stories to our 2021-2022 Kids Write 4 Kids Creative Challenge. Talent shined from all 581 participants through their great stories, imagination, and creativity and we encourage all of you to keep putting pen to paper!

Our judging panel – made up of authors, editors, publishers, and winners from last year’s contest — selected two stories from ten finalists, rated on creativity, originality, story structure, and writing quality. We want to extend a huge congratulations to our two selected youth authors:

  • When You Wish Upon A Star by Megan Lam, Grade 7, (Colonel Irvine School, Calgary, AB)
  • Threads (A Poetry Collection) by Cora Arvidson, Grade 7, (Sir William Osler Elementary School, Vancouver, BC)

  • Light Master by Isabelle Stefanek, Grade 5 (Muheim Memorial Elementary School, Smithers, BC)
  • Pawprints in the Snow by Lillian Plangg, Grade 5 (Sir William Osler Elementary School, Vancouver, BC)
  • Saving Scarlet by Wyatt Clarke, Grade 8 (Armbrae Academy, Halifax, NS)
  • The Coin of Casilico by Ahsenath Izarh, Grade 6 (Home School, Toronto, ON)
  • The Ultimate Treasure Hunt by Kai-Ning Chang, Grade 4 (Dundas Valley Montessori School, Dundas, ON)

When You Wish Upon A Star and Threads will be published both in print and digitally, for the world to read. These books will be made available in print and digitally to purchase at Amazon, Google Play, Apple iBookstore, and Overdrive. Proceeds from these stores sold in 2022 will be donated to Megan and Cora’s charity of choice.
