Threads

Written by Cora Arvidson, Grade 7
Cover illustration by Delaney Cox

We cannot trace our fingers on the lines that connect us. Threads, the exploratory first collection by B.C. student Cora Arvidson, imagines human connection as a tangible thing stretching across borders and throughout history. Imbued with wonder and trepidation at the adrift smallness of a single person in the world, Threads examines connection, consciousness and youth.

About the Author

Cora Arvidson is a Grade 7 student and aspiring writer living in Vancouver, B.C. She’s loved poetry ever since her aunts read her a poem about a silkworm when she was 3, making her dream of billowing scarves come to life. When Cora’s not writing or frantically studying, she’s biking, drawing, playing basketball, tending to her many houseplants or scouring the depths of Spotify for strange, unknown music and Berlin-era David Bowie. She has acted in three productions with Bard on the Beach’s Young Shakespereans program, as Oberon, Macbeth and Caliban. Cora draws inspiration from thinking about how we are connected now and throughout history and is always trying to understand new perspectives. Her favourite books include Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, The House in the Cerulean Sea, Letters to a Young Poet, and I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. Her poetry is influenced most by her aunts and the books they lend to her. Recently, she’s been exploring different styles of poetry, including Allen Ginsberg’s Howl and song lyrics.
